Testosterone up!!!
I KNOW I'M LATE. ONLINE, punctuality was never my strongest suit, but here goes....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JLIAN!!!
I can't draw as amazingly as you do, I can't translate as well as you do... (will Elvish count, though? But even in that, I suck, so...) Hope you had a great day on the day you turned a year older and wiser.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok... hardly the next Origins film I had hoped for, but this sounds promising.
Forgive me, but as much as he had shown he could do so so so much more, I still get horrid (and hilarious) flashbacks of him in Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place.
So last Saturday afternoon, devoid of sleep and totally exhausted from my trip to Manila the day before (yes. Manila EXHAUSTS me.) my friend and I went to check out WOLVERINE. It's a film my friend had already seen days before, but we like second servings.
TESTOSTERONE AMPED TO THE MAX.
I almost envied the lone girl in the main cast. Almost. Almost. *remembers how I whispered to my friend "She's so gonna die, isn't she."*
I went into this film not knowing anything about the casting except that Hugh Jackman will play Wolverine. I honestly couldn't think of anyone else who could do it, personally.
So, imagine me freaking out when the opening credits appeared.
Me: DANIEL HENNEY?! The Korean guy!?
Friend: (thinks)... yeah, I think there's an Asian among them.....
......
Me: TAYLOR KITSCH?!
Friend: (frowns)... Who?
Me: Friday Night Lights?
Friend: ....What?
Me: The TV series!
Friend: ........?
.....
Me: RYAN REYNOLDS?!!?
Friend: Oh he's got a small role. In the beginning... and end.....
.... She knows how to spoil. I do, too... but for those who haven't seen the film yet, I'd keep mum.
But whoa.
Daniel Henney acted on this one. Granted he only needed to look cool and badass while doing so, but I actually believe the lines coming out of his mouth, as opposed to when I watched him in a couple of those Korean dramas. XDD Am I mean?
Word of advice, Daniel. Hit Hollywood. Forget Korea. You speak the language better.
I absolutely LOVED the film version of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. And the TV's first season... Second season, it became your typical jock-high-school TV series and I abandoned it. And Taylor Kitsch's character wasn't exactly a favorite of mine there, but damn was he deliciously sly as Gambit. I wouldn't say no to an Origins film starring him.
There are films about mutants and mutations that one can never take seriously. I took this one seriously. And no, not only for the testosterone (can you tell I'm JE-ghei-overdosing lately?)
I love backstories... IF they are delivered and executed well. This was well-done, actually. Better than others. I wish I could say more about the writing, but.... SIGHTS AND SOUNDS, people. DON'T THINK, just... WATCH. Hugh is... well, Hugh. As I said, I couldn't picture anyone else as Wolverine.
Liev Schreiber is solid. As always. So are the other supporting players. I just noticed how the filmmakers seemed to take any opportunity they can get to make these boys show some skin.
... I am not complaining. I mean... I shouldn't.
Should I?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In one night, I actually did a marathon of two Filipino films.
SHOCK!!
My colleagues' fault. Lending me those two DVDs. *shrugs*
It was prety good, actually. They're "A VERY SPECIAL LOVE", and its sequel "YOU CHANGED ME LIFE."
Cheesy titles, eh? Filipino moviegoers or the masses gobble up cheesy. The kind that spells stars and rainbows and gooey eyes.
But, as I said, they were pretty good. Good performances.... I say John Lloyd Cruz is a strong actor, and I like how he can move away from that Loveteam syndrome.
For those who don't know, Philippine entertainment has this knack of teaming up young stars and calling them love teams, where they do everything together, from TV series, TV appearances, CMs, to films, even concoct stories about them actually being an item in real life. It's totally fake, most of them, but they work. For some. I can name a lot of promising actors and actresses whose careers went down the drain when their 'loveteams' break up. And they're lucky if one of them actually move beyond that.
Back to John Lloyd Cruz. For the longest time, he's been identified with another actress in a love team... but I guess the bigwigs took a gamble on him and paired him off in the film A VERY SPECIAL LOVE with... what one can only call as Philippines' sweetheart SARAH GERONIMO. Starting off as winner of the Singing Star Search "Star For A Night" (her rendition of Celine Dion's POWER OF LOVE is quite... spine-tingling, I have to admit), she only did the odd acting bit here and there.... But she totally rocked in the film, overshadowing the veteran actors. The makers knew they hit something gold, and then came the sequel.
In a nutshell, it's a feel-good romantic film. A simple lass had been holding the torch for a scion of a ultra-wealthy family. To get close to him, she applies as an Editorial Assistant in his publishing company.... First film follows how they became a couple... Second film is about how they're dealing with their relationship.
I guess what surprised me most about these films? They actually had strong characterizations... and much of it attributed to the performances of the leads. They were so good that they were able to carve a third dimension to what would typically be two-dimensional characters. I actually ended up rooting for them in the end, not because they're so right for each other, but because they are actually WRONG for each other, BUT THEY MAKE IT WORK.
Apparently, a sequel to the sequel is in the works, due for a 2010 release.... I wonder when it will get old. The working title? Someone Like You. And, as with the first two films, Sarah would be singing the title songs.
I... actually liked ehr renditions of those two songs. *blushes* WHO HAS MP3s OF THOSE?! Thank you. LOL. I wish I could say the same for her duet with BSB's Howie Dorough, though....
I can't believe I talked this much about a Filipino film. Goes to show how deprived I am.
I guess there's that romantic side of me.
...gawd. There's a storm in my country right now. Literal storm. I hope it lets up on Saturday so I can go spelunking. I missed it two weekends ago. I'm not about to miss it this time!

Wolverine is that good? Really? I was planning to see that last week
kicks presentation, but my friend gave me a bad review, so I settled my money for Star Trek today instead~. But I might watch it later,lol.AND THE STORM! Singapore got it too last night. Only for 20 mins or so, but it was scary :(.
PS - I finally saw SCP of Ueda kissed Ryoko. I went berserk xD.
no subject
I wouldn't say it is THAT good. But as far as 'superhero' (mutant) films go, it was pretty good. :)
......the kiss. LINK???? I wanna go berserk, too.

OMFG...my respect for your tastes has gone down just bit just now. You LIKED Wolverine??? AKLHDHSKJDSF!!!!! That movie was TERRIBLE. No story. Bad acting. Fights sucked. Plot holes out the ying yang. Even small basic things didn't make sense (which I would go more into but to not spoil anyone). Wow. I can't believe you. X-Men: the Last Stand was better than this movie and THAT is saying something. Tsk, tsk. *shakes head sadly* Sabretooth is NOT Wolverine's brother.
I've never really watched any Filipino films but I do remember one that I absolutely loved and that was BCUZ of U. I love it b/c it was a cute romantic comedy and that was when I realized that a lot of Tagalog is just English with tagalog thrown in. Maybe that's how movies are made? IDK. Hehe...good times tho.
no subject
I didn't say it was a fantastic film, and there are certain factors to be considered... JE-ghei overdose being one of them... and notice how I keep emphasizing testosterone over good writing. LOL!! It's only good to check out ths film for the sights and sounds, not the essence. XDD
Yeah.... it figures how the filmmakers would try to add a bit of drama and play up Logan's amnesia by adding in that brother angle. Didn't work much for me, though....
...and did I mention how I have little love for films whose plots are vengeance-driven? And that scene where he cradled kayla (sp?) and cried out... I was thinking, "OVERUSED SHOT, OVERUSED SCENE"
Try checking those two films out. I haven't seen BCUZ OF U.... nor do I plan to. Unless my colleagues do a repeat performance and practically shove the DVDs down my throat and I'd feel too guilty to not say anything when they ask what I thought about it. :)

That "love team" was totally new to me. So much for love is one's career goes downhill lol
Word of advice, Daniel. Hit Hollywood. Forget Korea. You speak the language better.
NOOOOOO~
He speaks Korean pretty well already. And he is just too funny in variety shows :D Hollywood can take Dennis Oh instead :P Or not. He's too good looking so he has to stay in South Korea as well.
no subject
LOL. I haven;t actually seen Daniel in any of the variety shows. I admit that judgment of mine was based only on the couple of dramas I've seen him in.
Dennis Oh. Gawd. Daniel Henney acts better than him by a mile.... It was paaaaainful watching Dennis Oh try to act like he can act. Good thing he provides good eye candy.

Haven't seen Wolverine yet. I've read mixed reviews on it, might give it a chance and watch it later.
I've never suffered from JE-ghei overdose myself, but if that were to happen, I have to agree testosterone is a good solution to the problem.
no subject
I am overdosing, so I need to find ways to neutralize things. I don't want to experience a JE-induced imbalance. mwahaha.
Sounds interesting ^_^
Spelunking. sounds soooo interesting ^_^ hopefully the storm won't make you miss it ^_^

daniel henney is the korean guy, huh? hollywood name? confuse here. did he raised in america, have a blood of an american, or is he big in korea??
no subject
Yep. Daniel Henney. Born and bred in the US, I think, then went home to Korea, started modeling and acting there... heard of the K-drama My Name is Kim Sam Soon? That's one of his first acting gigs in Korea. I think he's half-American, half-Korean.....

Jeffer, you are ACES at timing and that is something I've always wanted to learn how to do but have never gotten around to it yet so you have my eternal and undying respect.
And the lateness of my timezone ensures that you are STILL ON TIME. (Don't you love how the world works like that? =))
Also, I just finished watching Wolverine today too, and I came out with almost EXACTLY the same feelings. "The poor girl! ...Why were there no other girls?!"
Besides loving the whole X-Men franchise, the other reason I was watching it was because they filmed part of the movie at my school. The exterior shot during the African Diamond Mine scene? Was totally an office building on my campus, and the set there was a set that I had to walk through to get to class. XD
If I'd known that they would fly Hugh Jackman in for the scene, though, I would've CAMPED OUT on campus. And dammit, next time I'm totally taking photos.
no subject
How old are you now?
No. Wait. On second thought, don't tell me. I;d probably feel ancient if you do.
I've this theory that the filmmakers now want to turn the tables and let the females objectify the males on the screen, hence the lack of female presence. Haha!
For real!? No star sighting, at all? I'd have camped out too if that opportunity came to me. And I'd do my damnedest to take MORE than photos. (Don't ask.)

In a storm like this, I wish I could just stay home, lock myself in my room, find a good position in my bed, cover myself with blankets up my chin, and watch DVDs with Boy Bawang as a substitute for popcorn. But, no, I have to report for work. *sigh*
I've been meaning to watch Wolverine because I like his character, the conflicts he has, and all that. But looking at the reviews, I'm holding myself back. If I'm just going to watch a movie because it has loads of hot guys, I'd stick with Arashi videos. XD Although major drooling is almost always a given, at least I'd laugh too.
I haven't seen the TV series Friday Nights Live but I've heard of it because of Taylor Kitsch. I liked him in The Covenant.
Now, when it comes to Pinoy movies, I'll just shut up. I don't want to rant. :P Never did watch any of those "romantic comedy" flicks starring Starstruck finalists and other bunch of "idols". I watch entries for MMFF but other than that, I stick to Hollywood. Not really patriotic, I know but can you really blame me?
no subject
Seriously... are these people even thinking!?
We're currently at Signal #2, running on 3. You? It's freezing cold, the wind lashes from all directions, with rain whipping in sleets.
Boy Bawang.... yum.... It's been a while since I got some good junk food to succumb to. Gah.
He was in The Covenant? I only watched that film with indifference. Probably coz it's not my cup of tea, that certain genre. Hmmm....
Gawd. tell me about it. I'd be the first to spit Pinoy films. Well, there're the noteworthy ones, but most are indie films, and the lack of budget renders the production values at a low when they have otherwise very good plots and performances. And they're rarely if ever played in my City. Not even our brand of Pinoy comedy appeals to me. Slapstick ain't my thing. *shrugs*

I haven't seen Wolverine yet or heard anything about it but this could be good to see in the cinemas. I haven't gone to a movie theatre in ages. And it has Daniel Henney. Yes please. :)
My first sighting of Ryan Reynolds is from Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place too. I never watched the Friday Night Lights TV series but I love the film.
I don't watch Filipino films much. I remembered the last full one I watched was one from Iza Calzado and Dingdong Dantes. LOL. And I think I only watched it cos there's a Korean film with the same concept.
no subject
Yes, actually. Had to meet my aunt at the airport in the morning of May 1, then... for some reason she wanted to kill time in Manila, so I became the one to carry her shopping all over MOA until we finally left for Baguio at 10pm. Dead beat.
Yeah. Up for mindless entertainment? Wolverine it is, then.
THE FILM ROCKED. I love it. I wished they carried its themes over to the series, but... well.... TV is TV, film is film.
Eternity... right? I only know the title coz when we were talking at the office about the two films they forced me to watch, they segued into other Pinoy films and I was like.... "....".

annndddd oooh... i love those two films. well, all the john lloyd ones. even the time he was paired with bea. he really is an actor. he is one of the most versatile and hindi nakakasawa ones. i blame my mom for making me like john lloyd. rofl. she's a big fan. tooo contagious XD

The only other John Lloyd film that I saw was.... One More Chance... because my friend Majo lent me her portable HD filled with stuff for iPods, and that was one of her files. haha! Pretty good actor. Other than these three.... I never saw others.
no subject
Same here. I think I haven't seen a Filipino film for years now. *guilty*
And you also mentioned that she did a good job in the film, so I guess if she does her best again she can pull it off when she plays Tsukushi Makino in the Filipino version of HanaDan.
no subject
That's confirmed? They're really making a Pinoy version!?
Hmmm.. but yeah, I can totally see her pulling it off, and adding her own mark on the character....

I was okay with the Wolverine film. It was entertaining enough and I enjoyed it whilst I sat in the cinema, and mostly, that's all I expect from sci-fi/action films. Yeah, so there were plotholes and bits that didn't tie in with the main movies (I've only seen two actually. Don't really follow the X-men thang), but let's switch our thinking brains off and enjoy the violence :)
I totally understand your acceptance of the movie.
The only thing for me was the poor CGs. Totally not 21st century quality. My friends said that a pre-post-production version of the film had been leaked (so there were no special effects on that one), and we think they must have rushed the release because of that. Shame really.
no subject
My friend actually had a copy of that leak. This was the most-pirated film of all time, they say? Hmmm. Just proves that piracy really ultimately comes from the inside.
Even the appearance of Prof X at the end was poorly done. Tsk.

I haven't watched any of the Bea/John Lloyd movies! Almost everyone I know watched both films already. I don't know, I'm really not fond of romantic films. Hey, I also like Bea's cover versions of the songs, but I don't have MP3s. :(
Boo to the storm! I just got back from work and the streets are totally flooded! You know how the local politicians would repair the roads during summer in time for the rainy season? Well, rainy season came a little too early and the repairs only worsened the floods! Oops, sorry, I'm ranting. :(
no subject
The only Bea/John Lloyd film I've seen was One More Chance... but I liked the chemistry of John Lloyd and Sarah, maybe because it was clear they were having fun while filming it.
Hey, I also like Bea's cover versions of the songs, but I don't have MP3s. :(
You mean Sarah's, right?
Too bad, I'm not willing to dish out cash (i could use for Arashi) to buy the album/soundtrack. LOL. Stingy!!
WHAT ELSE IS NEW?! Think about it. It'll be the elections next year. The politicians need to have something to show on their 'track record', they need to sell themselves with so-called accomplishments. *shrugs*

I hope you can go spelunking. We are getting the tail end of the storm in Manila and I had to wade through flash floods to get home.

anyway, have i ever told you that John Lloyd has pretty hands/fingers? (well not as pretty as that guy who sang dan-dan-dan but pretty enough for me actually want to watch him in tagalog dawson's creek. no, seriously)
they say the major arashi is tomorrow. omg. not good at all.
take care!
ps: can i ask you something? it's stupid. i am so sad these days,very. specially during work when it's really quiet and it's just me and my computer in my cubicle. kindly suggest ways to distract myself. seryoso. mababaliw na ako sa kakaisip sa problema ko. or tell me how stupid i am? i'd appreciate that.no subject
Here's something more jologs. TWICE while on a bus (night trip) the one they showed was.... *drumroll* PORK CHOP DUO!!!!!
Granted... I laughed through most of it.
Still. Jologs, EH?
He does? Haha! I don't even notice. Maybe it's not that pretty if I haven't noticed it....? Or he just doesn't have the Ohno-charm to go with it so I was oblivious? Still... if you say so.
Tabing-Ilog, right? I think I watched the beginning, then stopped when I realized it was a DC ripoff. I did hear it redeemed itself in the end... but by that time I ceased to care.
..... Ok...... ask away..... What's wrong? You know you can email me...... yonje_22@yahoo.com. I know, I know, I should be online more often so we can chat like we did that time... but... did I mention how I hate our MITD for blocking any IM at work? And now they blocked Megaupload too. *sigh*

Good cast.. and Hugh Jackman.. well it's Hugh Jackman. OMG is he hot or what! It was really fun to watch the movie cos I went with one of my gay friends.. and we had a blast, way to many hotties on screen! What more can you ask for!? I really recommend to watch a movie like this with a gay friends.. its super! God I love my gay friends! XDDD
Hope you are ok hon! Miss you! :)

XD
Anyway, lol, I'm kind of weak for testosterone-filled films, so. But some say Wolverine was not that good? I don't even know, but I wanted to watch it before it had those kind of reviews. But anything for Ryan Reynolds! Hahaha.
I never anticipated that John Lloyd Cruz would be this good at acting. He really deserves having that topnotch treatment somehow for me. *remembers Ang TV days xDDD*
Oh, dear, how's the storm up there? (It's raining endlessly here every afternoon.)
