I KNOW I'M LATE. ONLINE, punctuality was never my strongest suit, but here goes....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JLIAN!!!

I can't draw as amazingly as you do, I can't translate as well as you do... (will Elvish count, though? But even in that, I suck, so...) Hope you had a great day on the day you turned a year older and wiser.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok... hardly the next Origins film I had hoped for, but this sounds promising.
Forgive me, but as much as he had shown he could do so so so much more, I still get horrid (and hilarious) flashbacks of him in Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place.
So last Saturday afternoon, devoid of sleep and totally exhausted from my trip to Manila the day before (yes. Manila EXHAUSTS me.) my friend and I went to check out WOLVERINE. It's a film my friend had already seen days before, but we like second servings.
TESTOSTERONE AMPED TO THE MAX.
I almost envied the lone girl in the main cast. Almost. Almost. *remembers how I whispered to my friend "She's so gonna die, isn't she."*
I went into this film not knowing anything about the casting except that Hugh Jackman will play Wolverine. I honestly couldn't think of anyone else who could do it, personally.
So, imagine me freaking out when the opening credits appeared.
Me: DANIEL HENNEY?! The Korean guy!?
Friend: (thinks)... yeah, I think there's an Asian among them.....
......
Me: TAYLOR KITSCH?!
Friend: (frowns)... Who?
Me: Friday Night Lights?
Friend: ....What?
Me: The TV series!
Friend: ........?
.....
Me: RYAN REYNOLDS?!!?
Friend: Oh he's got a small role. In the beginning... and end.....
.... She knows how to spoil. I do, too... but for those who haven't seen the film yet, I'd keep mum.
But whoa.
Daniel Henney acted on this one. Granted he only needed to look cool and badass while doing so, but I actually believe the lines coming out of his mouth, as opposed to when I watched him in a couple of those Korean dramas. XDD Am I mean?
Word of advice, Daniel. Hit Hollywood. Forget Korea. You speak the language better.
I absolutely LOVED the film version of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. And the TV's first season... Second season, it became your typical jock-high-school TV series and I abandoned it. And Taylor Kitsch's character wasn't exactly a favorite of mine there, but damn was he deliciously sly as Gambit. I wouldn't say no to an Origins film starring him.
There are films about mutants and mutations that one can never take seriously. I took this one seriously. And no, not only for the testosterone (can you tell I'm JE-ghei-overdosing lately?)
I love backstories... IF they are delivered and executed well. This was well-done, actually. Better than others. I wish I could say more about the writing, but.... SIGHTS AND SOUNDS, people. DON'T THINK, just... WATCH. Hugh is... well, Hugh. As I said, I couldn't picture anyone else as Wolverine.
Liev Schreiber is solid. As always. So are the other supporting players. I just noticed how the filmmakers seemed to take any opportunity they can get to make these boys show some skin.
... I am not complaining. I mean... I shouldn't.
Should I?
In one night, I actually did a marathon of two Filipino films.
SHOCK!!
My colleagues' fault. Lending me those two DVDs. *shrugs*
It was prety good, actually. They're "A VERY SPECIAL LOVE", and its sequel "YOU CHANGED ME LIFE."
Cheesy titles, eh? Filipino moviegoers or the masses gobble up cheesy. The kind that spells stars and rainbows and gooey eyes.
But, as I said, they were pretty good. Good performances.... I say John Lloyd Cruz is a strong actor, and I like how he can move away from that Loveteam syndrome.
For those who don't know, Philippine entertainment has this knack of teaming up young stars and calling them love teams, where they do everything together, from TV series, TV appearances, CMs, to films, even concoct stories about them actually being an item in real life. It's totally fake, most of them, but they work. For some. I can name a lot of promising actors and actresses whose careers went down the drain when their 'loveteams' break up. And they're lucky if one of them actually move beyond that.
Back to John Lloyd Cruz. For the longest time, he's been identified with another actress in a love team... but I guess the bigwigs took a gamble on him and paired him off in the film A VERY SPECIAL LOVE with... what one can only call as Philippines' sweetheart SARAH GERONIMO. Starting off as winner of the Singing Star Search "Star For A Night" (her rendition of Celine Dion's POWER OF LOVE is quite... spine-tingling, I have to admit), she only did the odd acting bit here and there.... But she totally rocked in the film, overshadowing the veteran actors. The makers knew they hit something gold, and then came the sequel.
In a nutshell, it's a feel-good romantic film. A simple lass had been holding the torch for a scion of a ultra-wealthy family. To get close to him, she applies as an Editorial Assistant in his publishing company.... First film follows how they became a couple... Second film is about how they're dealing with their relationship.
I guess what surprised me most about these films? They actually had strong characterizations... and much of it attributed to the performances of the leads. They were so good that they were able to carve a third dimension to what would typically be two-dimensional characters. I actually ended up rooting for them in the end, not because they're so right for each other, but because they are actually WRONG for each other, BUT THEY MAKE IT WORK.
Apparently, a sequel to the sequel is in the works, due for a 2010 release.... I wonder when it will get old. The working title? Someone Like You. And, as with the first two films, Sarah would be singing the title songs.
I... actually liked ehr renditions of those two songs. *blushes* WHO HAS MP3s OF THOSE?! Thank you. LOL. I wish I could say the same for her duet with BSB's Howie Dorough, though....
I can't believe I talked this much about a Filipino film. Goes to show how deprived I am.
I guess there's that romantic side of me.
...gawd. There's a storm in my country right now. Literal storm. I hope it lets up on Saturday so I can go spelunking. I missed it two weekends ago. I'm not about to miss it this time!
And she's alive! LOL. But It's understandable since you're very busy. You were in Manila last week?
I haven't seen Wolverine yet or heard anything about it but this could be good to see in the cinemas. I haven't gone to a movie theatre in ages. And it has Daniel Henney. Yes please. :)
My first sighting of Ryan Reynolds is from Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place too. I never watched the Friday Night Lights TV series but I love the film.
I don't watch Filipino films much. I remembered the last full one I watched was one from Iza Calzado and Dingdong Dantes. LOL. And I think I only watched it cos there's a Korean film with the same concept.
And it appears that I indeed am alive. :) Albeit cold, and freezing.
Yes, actually. Had to meet my aunt at the airport in the morning of May 1, then... for some reason she wanted to kill time in Manila, so I became the one to carry her shopping all over MOA until we finally left for Baguio at 10pm. Dead beat.
Yeah. Up for mindless entertainment? Wolverine it is, then.
THE FILM ROCKED. I love it. I wished they carried its themes over to the series, but... well.... TV is TV, film is film.
Eternity... right? I only know the title coz when we were talking at the office about the two films they forced me to watch, they segued into other Pinoy films and I was like.... "....".
I know. The wind was so cold while I was on my way to work this morning.
Aw. Sounds tiring. I hope you at least got something free from your aunt while shopping. XD
Had to check on google and it's Moments of Love. It's the one where Dingdong is living in present time and Iza is from the past but they manage to talk on the phone with each other. Come to think of it there's a whole lot of films out there with the same plot like Lake House, Il Mare, Sky of Love..etc.
They suspended our work today. AT 4PM.
4PM. Right. Big help, that is.
Well, she did bring home stuff, a couple pair of boots and some stuff... but for shopping, the sneakers and the pair of shades I got were all paid by me. haha!
Ahhh yeah... three...two years ago, was it? I think I actually went to watch that at the cinema.... also intrigued by the Il Mare and Sky of Love similarities...
