A scar-less Harry....NOT.

First things first....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BECKY~!!!!!
How do you feel? Wiser....? (Older....?)
.... WISER??
(Does the 49 in your username stand for your age? LOL)
And I started Tudors Ep1.
....intense. Very intense. Were the Don Juan de Marco and Casanova films ever THIS "revealing"?
For now..... (i know, i know, Arashi will be on Utaban today. Gah. I can't wait to see more Nakai-Ohno action!) but just so no one would say my life revolves around Arashi...... let's do this.
"DO YOU....MERLIN?" "Yeah, whatever."

These might be spoiler-ish...so are my comments, but I'll try to be vague. EMPHASIS ON "TRY".

I actually had loads of screencaps....but then I was staring at them (it's a weird hobby, I know, staring at screencaps, but I've seen stranger afflictions and this was milder in comparison) and I realized they were too spoilerish.
So I went online..... and took pix from the official site. MWAHAHAHAHA.
Photo credits to Keep the Magic Secret. In short, these are promo pix.
First off.... Bradley James as PRINCE ARTHUR. The Prat, the Royal Ass.

How do I say this..... He's....ARROGANT.
And while he is portrayed as the best warrior in the kingdom....I am not entirely convinced. Maybe that impression is influenced by his being some sort of a puppet of his father Uther??
But you can sense the justice in him, how he has a good heart, but his father's orders sometimes override his better senses.
I know this is trivial and might not even count for much, but my impression of Princes and Camelot include maids and stuff...... especially for a Prince...he only has Merlin!! (which explains the heaps of slash floating around. lol)

MORGANA. Portrayed by Kathie MacGrath.
Uther's ward, has a tense relationship with Arthur.... later half of the series and we can sense bits and pieces of what she will become.
.....I love her costumes. And most are in BLUE!!!

At a glance, I keep seeing how she can be a dead-ringer for Keira Knightley.
Her character is quite...shall we say, tortured? Orphaned at a young age, forced to live with an Uncle King whose ways (and thoughts) constantly clash with hers, and given this gift of premonition....
GUINEVERE, Morgana's maid.
I....didn't expect this. At all.
And at first thought I felt stirrings between Guinevere and Merlin.
(oh, did you know that Jennifer is a derivation of Guinevere?)

Angel is a more solid actress than the Kathie as Morgana, IMO.
Not much has been written for her character yet, but I look forward to how she will evolve in the next season.
And....MERLIN. Colin Morgan. Bloody hell he's Irish, I love his accent!!!!

He has a quietness to him, typical of a warlock who has to keep his magic secret in pain of death, but when he grins impishly, I forget that he is that future sorcerer who will help shape Camelot with Arthur. He's still just a young man coming to grips with his so-called destiny.

I.... actually think he was cast very well in the role. He's not flashy, not a standout (at least not your typical heartthrob). He has a charm about him that comes out in calculated moments.

LANCELOT.
He appears in only one episode, with hints of what he and Guinevere will become in the future.
But my thought when I saw him was, "Ooooh....Lancelot is Hispanic!!!"

The Dragon.
Voiced by JOHN HURT (awesome!!). I love the detail in this CGI character.

UTHER PENDRAGON, the King. played by Anthony Head.
Annoying prig. I wanna scream every time he says "You have no idea what it takes to be King." Ugh! I lost count of how many times that line was spoken, either. I don't know if it was a flaw in the writing, or simply a way to drive in just how pathetic his character is.

He's truly the most cowardly of the lot, turning his fear of magic into hatred.
But really... my first reaction was.... "GILES!!!! You're supposed to be Buffy's watcher, what on earth are you doing being an idle King?!"
MORDRED.
Oh, this is surreal. (He appears in only one episode).
Has anyone seen the MERLIN TV movie where the title role was portrayed by Sam Neill? The actor in there who played Mordred was John Donne (sp?). I got wigged out when I saw the kid playing the young Mordred, 'coz they soooo resemble each other.
Oh...and in this, Mordred is a DRUID.

SOPHIA.
One ep also. I don't really care much about her....but I like the costumes!!!

And then there is NIMUEH....the season''s antagonist, played by the beautiful Michelle Ryan.

One glance at her at first (she first appeared in Ep2) and I KNEW.

She is sooooo pretty.... (Sorry, lolz. I just like the symmetry of her features, how she can look both scheming and yet innocent at the same time. Sorceress.)

And I first saw her in BIONIC WOMAN. Yes, I watched that too. LOL.

The relationship between Arthur and Merlin. Now, I can totally understand why the slash communities are in an uproar over tis, coz the chemistry is just....wow. They're both sides of a coin indeed.

...and off my fave episode in Season One..... (I won't elaborate to avoid spoilers. I just.....loved this episode to bits.)

And also because this series catered to my sense of wonder.....something I thought I already lost... I gasped when I saw the unicorn. Ahhh...I can be such a kid when I put my mind to it.

....
Shot entirely in France, it's not short of good panoramic shots....Still, I could not quite get that feel of the majestic Camelot. But then again, the 'golden age' of Camelot begun when Arthur took the crown. Perhaps that explains the lack of pomp I am seeing. :)
I am enjoying the dialogues. The wit and the dry humor that the Brits are known for..
An obligatory bias shot.
I've....written far too much already....

Date: 2009-03-06 12:19 am (UTC)Merlin? Is that the same Merlin shown in Hallmark? Or different one. I am interested to see this one, for one its the younger version of King Arthur. Lancelot and Guinevere --I was shocked by this too.
