Non-JE.

Not a day goes by that it doesn't rain over here.

...that sounded mighty petty, considering the plight of those people Ike just swept over. *hangs head in shame*

For those who care to know, I wasn't late last Saturday. So I met up with my companion for the afternoon, and spent an hour watching guys and gals in white hats (they're 'apprentice chefs', but I just adored their chef hats *rolls eyes*) outdo one another in FRUIT AND VEGETABLE CARVING. It was the Hotel & Restaurant Tourism Weekend: Culinary Odyssey weekend in my city and, as the name implies, there had to be food, food and more food. And Saturday was the last day, so we thought to catch at least ONE event (coz most of the others started late Thursday through Friday when we actually had lives and had to be behind desks to earn a living and some bucks to hand to Johnny Kitagawa.)

It was an interesting hour, watching them make stuff with watermelons, pumpkins and papaya. Some were really creative, and some just made me go, "How on earth are people supposed to eat that?" while noting how candles and stuff are put inside those things. Other than that, I applaud them. But as much as I admire them, I still prefer those fruits performing their function as nature dictates: for ingestion more than the aesthetics.

When it was over, we went for some pasta at Zola, then let the pouring rain ease up a bit before heading to the rooftop of this mall where a concert will be held. Because of the rain, we thought it won't go through, but we still gave it a shot and...top floor, we heard riffs and strings and went, "OH YEAH!"

So the front act was this local homegrown band that mainly plays country music (country is HUUGE in my city). I saw them first when they were high school seniors. Now they're college sophomores. And they've improved. They even write their own songs, which is WOW. Their set had, like, seven songs? And during that time, it was starting to drizzle. This was on a rooftop, right, and there was this single tent set up to cover our heads.

People began trooping, in umbrellas and stuff. My companion and I had caps on (because umbrellas really aren't our thing). By the time the main artist came on the stage, the drizzle became some-kinda-rain.

She is KITCHIE NADAL. You know why I really really REALLY like her? Coz she's a musician. A poet. Very smart (double majors in a prestigious university). Writes her songs and own melodies, plays the guitar, really simple and without a hint of self-consciousness in her unlike some celebs masquerading to be musicians when they're merely singers. (I'm harsh, I know.)

And she seems to refuse to be a cash cow for anyone. She does small-town gigs (this rooftop concert was free admission) and some gigs for churches (she also writes and sings gospel songs). On this one, it was the Church that called on her to perform, and it seems this is the nth time already. She also writes songs for environmental causes. Yes, even patriotic.

AND I LOVE HER VOICE.

She's the Rock Princess of the Philippines.

....I am so pimping her, aren't I.

BACK TO THE CONCERT.

It was a looooot of fun. Her set had about 11 songs, and it didn't matter that in the middle the rain just POURED, yes, even through the tent cover. She gave out shirts near the end, to the 'most wet' people around. That's when my companion and I made a break for it, not wanting to get into the crush of people leaving.

...I swear, when she comes back on December (I'm pretty sure she'll be back since she loves my city.) I'll properly go to a proper concert.

And I miss these things. I totally should get back into following the live band scene. That's where real talent lies. Yes, even when I am soaked to the skin. XDD

To complete the pimpage....Let's ask for YT's help, shall we?
SAME GROUND - MY FAVORITE KITCHIE SONG. EVER. Check it out.

RUN - I wished she sang this one. *sigh* Amazing vocals on this one.
FIRE - The very first song I heard from her that made me a fan. She sings it live HERE.
BULONG - Probably my favorite Kitchie song sung in Filipino. It's just uplifting....Bulong means "Whisper" in Filipino. I'd translate, but dang, I suck at my own mother tongue.
WAG NA WAG MONG SASABIHIN - this is where she broke through mainstream. It was used as the theme of the Kdrama "Lovers in Paris" when it was aired here. It means "Don't ever, ever say."

Ok. I'll stop now. Mediafire's giving me headaches with uploads. And I am having a headache dealing with the fact that I don't pay much attention to my mobile phone and tonight that I NEED to SMS my friend, I dig through my bag and realize I forgot my keita in my drawer at the office. And my folks deleted this friend's particular phone number on their phones and I don't really write down phone numbers anywhere and whyohwhy do I remember only TWO numbers, mine and my mom's?

Karma. My phone is punishing me for neglecting it.

Oh. I did say non-JE, right? But I'm just gonna say this.

I'M GLAD TO HAVE BEEN WITH ARASHI ON THEIR NINTH YEAR, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO GOING ON THEIR TENTH WITH THEM.

she's gonna come out with a new book from her old Flip essays. I bought her last book but you know how different her writing is from Arashi, I never read it yet. I wanna win the free book on her site but I don't know the answers.. you'll make it in Taipei?

sorry, I'm just so used to ranting at my blog but now I'm afraid of it coz all I do is rant in it so I need to go somewhere else. ;)

I've her TWISTED books, cause I had twisted friends who thought each of them should give me the books, each. Haha!

oooh! I look forward to that Flip book! The only time I get to read her is through her blog and I really like her wit.

...Taipei? eerr....mahirap magsalita nang tapos. I'll tell ya when I do. :)

Haha. Ok lang. It's all about self-expression, anyway. :)

got her books too, pwera yung election.. mahal e, tas booklet lang.. but i like her fictions instead.. i don't like her to talking about herself anymore, medyo emo na dating.. oops.

yes, exactly, the contents of her new books are things in her blog also, so why not print instead? jokes.. me Zafra spy ba dito?

I'm actually going to be very jealous if you'll make it in Taipei, depression pa rin ba? But it'll be nice to know Filipinos could make it there esp. fans I know pa even only on their blogs, mainggit na mainggit, mahirap atang task yun.. o diba parang Mt. Everest challenge? narating nyo yung concert, wow!

Pasensya na, and I speak Tagalog.. mas masaya "madepress" nang nagtatagalog..

...i don't think I have election too..Same reason, I guess. My friends thought it was pricey, too. (We're a stingy crowd)

about the TaipeiCon, naghihintay pa ng confirmation. I don't wanna jinx stuff kasi. hehehehe!!! I was aiming for best seats before, but it was a scramble, so now I'll settle for just 'seeing' Arashi perform. Period.

I speak Tagalog, too! So no worries! :) And I can rant in that language too, and spare those who don't understand it. lolz.

I just thought I'm a hazard to your non-Filipino readers, haha. but that's ok, I'm fine now, so I could speak again in English, haha, hirap kasi minsan magsenti in English, unless I wanna make fun of my mishaps, oops. I see many people still selling on comms 'extra' tickets... if I got papers and money, I'd like to go too badly. but I'm afraid baka mamalimos nlang ako sa kalye pag-uwi ko dito, haha..

The best way to deal with shit is to make fun of it, I supposed.

XDDD
