Technically, summer has been over in my country since...well...mid-May? When the rains and storms started coming in.
But in Japan. Summertime starts July! Which means Ohno season (oh you must be tired hearing this from me over and over and over......). Concert season (ahh...most of my STORMY teammates are meeting as we speak in the Land of the Rising Sun, and surely they're having a ball.....). New dramas season (
twistedhalo04is so psyched! lolz) which includes Ohno *sigh*, Toma, YamaPi...and now Tacchon. Now all we need is ONE DRAMA with ALL FOUR of them TOGETHER. I swear many would die swooning.
Meanwhile, to tide me over before MAOU starts....y'know, in between timing for a multitude of HanaKimi specials and dying between Hiro and Toma sightings...i resurrect pretty quick.
And! Speaking of Lee Jun-ki....I realized how out-of-the-loop I am when it comes to local Philippine TV.
And yet another.....Kim Sam-Soon ain't spared.....

Subs for Episodes 3 and 4 have already been released on LJ. Not too sure at d-addicts coz I don't go there often.
Things are really picking up. Character changes all around. But really, how much more can this poor guy take and still be that carefree Geom...err, Ryung, that we've seen grow?

Really, but his resilience is soooo impressive. But then again, ignorance is bliss.
I enjoyed the banter of these two. Cat-and-mouse. Who's the cat? And mouse? And why haven't I seen this girl in any drama before? I love her spunk.

and I am soooo biased, totally capped this from Lee Jun-Ki's angle, completely passing on the lady's. *is evil* I only realized as I was watching this that...the aristocratic girl was played by the heroine in Spring Waltz. Right? A kdrama I ho-humed my way through....
He looks soooo good in black.

So I didn't think they'd actually do it. I should've given them more credit. For not being original. Ehem. Anyway, I don't blame them. Taiwan and Japan are doing it. Also, take into consideration Korea's Meteor Garden/HYD version in the works. Everything's fair game, it seems.
My Girl was aired sometime last year....(or was it the year before last?) in my country, and it was a big hit. I know, because the ruckus pushed me to download the series and watch it (I can't stand dubbed shows either). Enjoyed it, had a blast. Changed my perception of Lee Da-hae (really, after watching her in Green Rose - which I also liked - do nothing but cry, sniff, then cry again, I was pleasantly surprised). Introduced me to the beauty that is Lee Jun-Ki. What's not to like?
In the dubbed version, they renamed the characters into Jasmine and Julian (Lee Da-hae and Lee Dong-wook). Then Jun-ki's character was renamed Nico, and the other girl (the tennister) became Anika.....In the Philippine version that just started airing sometime this May...I think the other girl was rewritten as a beauty queen/titlist instead of a tennis player....

So when we first heard about it, I was talking to my friends and She, my BFF, wondered who'd play Nico. And I went, "Oh, that'll be tough. But I wish they'd find someone even 25% of Lee Jun-Ki." But I highly doubted that, since the two leads cast (Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu) are a solid loveteam (loveteams are huuuuge here. Imagine if KimuTaku and Matsu Takako appeared in all their dramas and films and CMs together and even harbored thoughts of being involved in real life) and management won't dare introduce a threat to that loveteam by shoving in a 25% Jun-ki.
I'm so right. I hate it when I'm right.

In violet is Anika....then Gerald (Dong-wook role), Kim Chiu (Da-hae) and.........Enchong Dee (role of Jun-ki).

BFF She was going "WHY WHY WHY!!!!!" And I don't watch local TV (I already said that) except for the news, and She was able to catch the first week, and she had a lot to say. Like they made the Jun-ki character really....'fresh', one might say? He comes on to the Da-hae character really strongly in their first meeting, and She was going, "It wasn't like that!!!!"
And I go, "It's the Philippine version!!!!"
"Yeah, but why did they retain the Korean fashion and hairstyle, then?"
I blinked. "They did?" I looked. "Oh. They did."
So I waded through pages and pages...and saw some screenies someone made, just to see how faithful they were to the original. Credit to cheli of PEx.

I did try to peek into one episode, and it was the one where Da-hae was at the big house, then slipped in the shower, broke her neck, and Dong-wook saw her nekkid....Kim Chiu had enough sass and verve. Gerald was still a bit too stiff....I think, but Kim does carry their scenes together. The Nina girl who played Dong-wook's ex. Wow. The Philippine version of her was even more annoying than the Korean one. As for Enchong Dee as Jun-ki's character....*rolls eyes*
Unforgivable.
But then, goes to show how no one can seem to measure up to Jun-ki. They could've at least tried, though. But then again, maybe they were really too terrified to pose a threat to the Kim-Gerald teamup. Cowards.
ok. Last one. Credits to the kimerald BAOs

And yet another.....Kim Sam-Soon ain't spared.....
Let's move on to another series that I loved even more, My Name is Kim Sam-Soon. Yes, it turns out there'll be a Philippine remake as well, the title translated to Ako si Kim Sam-Soon. And it starts airing on July. And it stars this huuuge singer out here named Regine Velasquez, who also has to put on weight just like her Korean counterpart.
Hyung Bin's character was renamed into Cyrus, Daniel Henney is Henry and Ryu-won (sp?) is Hannah. Those were also the names used when they aired the dubbed version....two years ago? Gawd, my sense of time is muddled.
Anyway, I saw previews of this incorporated in some of the news programs I catch. It does look promising, but they did only show scenes of Regine as Sam-soon, and she just might be perfect. I shall reserve judgment (but it's not like I'll be able to watch it. I mean....MAOU shall be occupying my time when it airs....*happy sigh*)
Anyway...I'll just post pix I found off the net....
The original, of course....

And a fanart...Credits on the wallie itself. Characters correspond to the pic above.

I haven't watched enough of Regine as an actress, I only see her as a singer, and good voice and all, but her singing style isn't my cuppa tea. I hear this is only Hayden's second foray into acting, but he's a doctor in real life, too, so he just might work it. Nadine is a young actress, starting to make a name for herself, I think.
But I sure am glad Mark Anthony was cast for this one. I remember being a fan of his earlier works, before RL messed him up and put him through hoops. But he's straightened up, made a comeback. And I still think he's one of the best actors of his generation.
So...what do you think? Looks-wise. (Still smarting at the Jun-ki counterpart. Obviously.)
I hear these two aren't the only ones. Full House (which I absolutely enjoyed) is also being considered to be remade. Aarggh....I still long for originality....no matter how good these remakes turn out to be.
But I am so biased, aren't I? I mean, MAOU is a remake, but why am I not complaining?
Only human.

Yes agree to that! I don't know why but you get the feeling like you know she's pretty anyway- add to that if she has commercial endorsements that you see while watching that particular show- too ironic.
It's so better to cast some unknown girl and make her so beautiful in the end, but yes, as you said, they won't take that much of a risk.
No to Filipinized HYD. (all of of s sudden I thought of the The Hunks- haha- they're not "together" anymore right? lol, what am I saying..)

As I said, God forbid.
