Technically, summer has been over in my country since...well...mid-May? When the rains and storms started coming in.
But in Japan. Summertime starts July! Which means Ohno season (oh you must be tired hearing this from me over and over and over......). Concert season (ahh...most of my STORMY teammates are meeting as we speak in the Land of the Rising Sun, and surely they're having a ball.....). New dramas season (
twistedhalo04is so psyched! lolz) which includes Ohno *sigh*, Toma, YamaPi...and now Tacchon. Now all we need is ONE DRAMA with ALL FOUR of them TOGETHER. I swear many would die swooning.
Meanwhile, to tide me over before MAOU starts....y'know, in between timing for a multitude of HanaKimi specials and dying between Hiro and Toma sightings...i resurrect pretty quick.
And! Speaking of Lee Jun-ki....I realized how out-of-the-loop I am when it comes to local Philippine TV.
And yet another.....Kim Sam-Soon ain't spared.....

Subs for Episodes 3 and 4 have already been released on LJ. Not too sure at d-addicts coz I don't go there often.
Things are really picking up. Character changes all around. But really, how much more can this poor guy take and still be that carefree Geom...err, Ryung, that we've seen grow?

Really, but his resilience is soooo impressive. But then again, ignorance is bliss.
I enjoyed the banter of these two. Cat-and-mouse. Who's the cat? And mouse? And why haven't I seen this girl in any drama before? I love her spunk.

and I am soooo biased, totally capped this from Lee Jun-Ki's angle, completely passing on the lady's. *is evil* I only realized as I was watching this that...the aristocratic girl was played by the heroine in Spring Waltz. Right? A kdrama I ho-humed my way through....
He looks soooo good in black.

So I didn't think they'd actually do it. I should've given them more credit. For not being original. Ehem. Anyway, I don't blame them. Taiwan and Japan are doing it. Also, take into consideration Korea's Meteor Garden/HYD version in the works. Everything's fair game, it seems.
My Girl was aired sometime last year....(or was it the year before last?) in my country, and it was a big hit. I know, because the ruckus pushed me to download the series and watch it (I can't stand dubbed shows either). Enjoyed it, had a blast. Changed my perception of Lee Da-hae (really, after watching her in Green Rose - which I also liked - do nothing but cry, sniff, then cry again, I was pleasantly surprised). Introduced me to the beauty that is Lee Jun-Ki. What's not to like?
In the dubbed version, they renamed the characters into Jasmine and Julian (Lee Da-hae and Lee Dong-wook). Then Jun-ki's character was renamed Nico, and the other girl (the tennister) became Anika.....In the Philippine version that just started airing sometime this May...I think the other girl was rewritten as a beauty queen/titlist instead of a tennis player....

So when we first heard about it, I was talking to my friends and She, my BFF, wondered who'd play Nico. And I went, "Oh, that'll be tough. But I wish they'd find someone even 25% of Lee Jun-Ki." But I highly doubted that, since the two leads cast (Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu) are a solid loveteam (loveteams are huuuuge here. Imagine if KimuTaku and Matsu Takako appeared in all their dramas and films and CMs together and even harbored thoughts of being involved in real life) and management won't dare introduce a threat to that loveteam by shoving in a 25% Jun-ki.
I'm so right. I hate it when I'm right.

In violet is Anika....then Gerald (Dong-wook role), Kim Chiu (Da-hae) and.........Enchong Dee (role of Jun-ki).

BFF She was going "WHY WHY WHY!!!!!" And I don't watch local TV (I already said that) except for the news, and She was able to catch the first week, and she had a lot to say. Like they made the Jun-ki character really....'fresh', one might say? He comes on to the Da-hae character really strongly in their first meeting, and She was going, "It wasn't like that!!!!"
And I go, "It's the Philippine version!!!!"
"Yeah, but why did they retain the Korean fashion and hairstyle, then?"
I blinked. "They did?" I looked. "Oh. They did."
So I waded through pages and pages...and saw some screenies someone made, just to see how faithful they were to the original. Credit to cheli of PEx.

I did try to peek into one episode, and it was the one where Da-hae was at the big house, then slipped in the shower, broke her neck, and Dong-wook saw her nekkid....Kim Chiu had enough sass and verve. Gerald was still a bit too stiff....I think, but Kim does carry their scenes together. The Nina girl who played Dong-wook's ex. Wow. The Philippine version of her was even more annoying than the Korean one. As for Enchong Dee as Jun-ki's character....*rolls eyes*
Unforgivable.
But then, goes to show how no one can seem to measure up to Jun-ki. They could've at least tried, though. But then again, maybe they were really too terrified to pose a threat to the Kim-Gerald teamup. Cowards.
ok. Last one. Credits to the kimerald BAOs

And yet another.....Kim Sam-Soon ain't spared.....
Let's move on to another series that I loved even more, My Name is Kim Sam-Soon. Yes, it turns out there'll be a Philippine remake as well, the title translated to Ako si Kim Sam-Soon. And it starts airing on July. And it stars this huuuge singer out here named Regine Velasquez, who also has to put on weight just like her Korean counterpart.
Hyung Bin's character was renamed into Cyrus, Daniel Henney is Henry and Ryu-won (sp?) is Hannah. Those were also the names used when they aired the dubbed version....two years ago? Gawd, my sense of time is muddled.
Anyway, I saw previews of this incorporated in some of the news programs I catch. It does look promising, but they did only show scenes of Regine as Sam-soon, and she just might be perfect. I shall reserve judgment (but it's not like I'll be able to watch it. I mean....MAOU shall be occupying my time when it airs....*happy sigh*)
Anyway...I'll just post pix I found off the net....
The original, of course....

And a fanart...Credits on the wallie itself. Characters correspond to the pic above.

Individual pix. Credits to igma.tv.

I haven't watched enough of Regine as an actress, I only see her as a singer, and good voice and all, but her singing style isn't my cuppa tea. I hear this is only Hayden's second foray into acting, but he's a doctor in real life, too, so he just might work it. Nadine is a young actress, starting to make a name for herself, I think.
But I sure am glad Mark Anthony was cast for this one. I remember being a fan of his earlier works, before RL messed him up and put him through hoops. But he's straightened up, made a comeback. And I still think he's one of the best actors of his generation.
So...what do you think? Looks-wise. (Still smarting at the Jun-ki counterpart. Obviously.)
I hear these two aren't the only ones. Full House (which I absolutely enjoyed) is also being considered to be remade. Aarggh....I still long for originality....no matter how good these remakes turn out to be.
But I am so biased, aren't I? I mean, MAOU is a remake, but why am I not complaining?
Only human.

Kim is.. oriental. One of the chinita artistas I know, if not, THE ONLY chinita in Philippine television. haha.
and moving on.. Kim Sam Soon? really? Not sure what to feel. I love love Kim Sam Soon, that's all. I hope they make it good!
and lastly.. Full House TOO??ΓΌ
no subject
And I just realized I might have been too mean to Enchong Dee on the post, but I can't help it.
There seems to be quite a lot of chinita artistas out here now, if I'm not mistaken, brought about by the Taiwan-Korean-and-now-Japanese wave.
Yeah, I heard about Full House plans, i think casting is under way....or something....And a confirmed show was also the Philippine remake of the Columbian Betty La Fea (remade by the US as Ugly Betty).
Remakes proliferate. *sigh* i won't be surprised if they remade Meteor Garden/HYD. But then I'd be totally crushed when that happens.
no subject
Yes, I did see Betty La Fea in the ABS. I hope they really make her look believeably-ugly. Cuz most of the time I notice in Philippine TV, even if the artista is sleeping, she has eyeshadow and super glossy lip stick on- and I'm like, is she really supposed to be sleeping? haha. So I hope they do a good job with Betty La Fea, she gets super beautiful towards the end anyway.
Pleaseplease no remake for HYD. That's too depressing.
no subject
I notice they make an actress look ugly but you can still tell she is pretty underneath whatever prosthetics they put on her. What if they cast a complete unknown, whose real looks is unknown and then reveal her real face in the end? No? Yeah...i don't think they'd gamble on that. It'd be reallly co~ol, though.
And a Filipino HYD. Yes. Depressing, but with Korea doing it, who the hell knows. Maybe they'll jump on the bandwagon.
God forbid.
no subject
Yes agree to that! I don't know why but you get the feeling like you know she's pretty anyway- add to that if she has commercial endorsements that you see while watching that particular show- too ironic.
It's so better to cast some unknown girl and make her so beautiful in the end, but yes, as you said, they won't take that much of a risk.
No to Filipinized HYD. (all of of s sudden I thought of the The Hunks- haha- they're not "together" anymore right? lol, what am I saying..)
no subject
As I said, God forbid.
no subject
i don't like remakes generally too, but i haven't watched the originall korean maou, so i'm not complaining :D
no subject
I've seen the original Maou, but I still WON'T complain no matter how it turns out. tee-hee!
no subject
i just hope other pple are like us too and won't compare the j-maou with the k-maou! unless they're going to say it's tons better :D
no subject
I second that. I think the original was awesome, so I hope MAOU does make its own mark. *crosses fingers*

BUT YES, LOVE TEAMS!
I don't even follow the love teams but I knew about them like John and Bea? And Sam Milby and that one girl.. But I do have a question, once they're a love team, will they always BE that love team? Or can they eventually move on?
What actually makes me sad is my mom and my grandma are ga ga over the My Girl series showing now and yet she won't give the original dramas a chance! I think it has to do with the subtitle reading but still.. :(
no subject
Oh yes, John and Bea are only one of the very many.
once they're a love team, will they always BE that love team?
Well, maybe not always. I notice that lately some foray into other team-ups, but when the attempt falls flat, they go back to their old effective ones. More often than not, I notice that only one in a loveteam is actually the 'strong' one who carries the team-up, that they can go solo or be paired with other people and still be successful. Sometimes the other one just gets left behind...unless they're really good....
But I hate how these loveteams have to concoct stories about being together, or having special feelings just so they can promote their films or programs.....I mean, how stupid do they think viewers are? (and it irks me that many fans actually fall for it. bleh.)
Ah, yes....there's that 'i-hate-to-read-subs' factor. Which is a pity, since the original My Girl totally rocked.....Hey, maybe you can persuade them to watch the Tagalog-dubbed My Girl. It's not airing on TFC still, is it?
no subject
If it's airing on TFC, my family apparently has no interest.
And I don't watch the TFC enough to know what's on it. All I ever hear from it is that Wowowee show :X
no subject
oh yeah...i hear Wowowee is its biggest draw......
no subject
well, instead I made a response post to this at my journal at http://gollydays.wordpress.com/2008/06/11/my-girl-vs-kim-sam-soon/ never mind the title.
no subject
I used to follow some programs (yes, both networks) but then the constant bickering among fans turned me off. Last night was actually the first time in ages that I logged into PEx, and only to look for pix. :D
I honestly used to think the network rivalry was good for competition, it just might raise the bar for local programming. But then it became petty, then it turned into stealing ideas and modifying them to suit their taste....Pathetic....
Good thing the documentary and news shows were still making sense, then I would've completely stayed away from local TV.
no subject
Some docu(dramas) nowadays are also inclined on the station's interest. Some. Same goes with the news, for me at least.
no subject
Yes. Some. But at least so far the news mentions less about ratings when discussing the pressing issues. lolz
no subject
Yes, news are improving, that is after the ratings scandal. It's just, their format, is a little lax, and looks less credible... *still dreaming for a caster like Sho would appear on news, hell, Mr. Sakurai knows how to be serious when it comes to news*
no subject
There are such rumors? Heart as Jessie!!! COME ON!!!! She's too......malamya? Oh man.....*this sucks*
Oh...haha....that'll be the day, my friend......:) So dream on. :D
no subject
Well, I guess, I prefer to watch Japanese news *oh now, that's too much already*. No, not really.
oh, thanks for calling me friend *smiles*
Pinoy HYD?
*oh, there's a new set of PBB teen ex-housemates right?*no subject
IF it were Sho on cam, I'd pick Japanese news. Never mind that I probably would only understand about 30% of it. *snickers*
Oh yeah....the season ended already? Uh-oh.
no subject
i just saw the Kim Sam Soon commercial on Youtube... looks promising, I must say. I hope it's not a disappointment.
no subject
It does look it, doesn't it? Regine seems alright.
no subject
Anyway, Regine's appearance seems a little exaggerated with stuff added to her body, my impression was "Sam Milby?"
no subject
Sam Milby....? I'm lost....sorry. haha!
I don't think they should've added fatten-me-up stuff on Regine. She's plump enough already, just give her gaudy clothes then she'll really look heavy.... *i'm so mean*
no subject
she's like Sam Milby on that movie about a fat guy, the 200 Pound Beauty movie rip-off.
They should just emphasize on Regine's losyang-ness, that worked.
no subject
Oh yeah...Big Love, was it? Some of my officemates watched it. Wasn't able to join them due to workload at the time. So it WAS a rip-off. Why am I not surprised. XDDD
no subject
sayang... you missed a lot by not watching Sam Milby! His acting was perfect... but his fat face is a little distracting.
no subject
Watched it! A friend gave me an iPod copy (i wonder what her source was. lolz) It was OK. Rip-off, indeed.
I kinda thought Sam acted better with the fatsuit. When he returned to his true frame, he just became so-so for me. :D
no subject
i'm sorry if i ever made you watch it, but i haven't seen it. if i ever would, it must be because i could trust toni's acting. sam is cute though, but not as cute nor as interesting as arashi..
no subject
compare Sam Milby to Arashi....COME ON.
no subject
no subject
Now all we need is ONE DRAMA with ALL FOUR of them TOGETHER. I swear many would die swooning.
I wonder if I can take that~~ HAHA
MAOU is a remake, but why am I not complaining?
HAHA I have no idea I just do not like local remakes... -____- I hardly watched local television before my j-invasion now I only watch for the news that's on during dinner heh
no subject
Same here. The news is about the only thing I watch, and some late-night documentaries. At least they make sense. :D
no subject
Yes they're the only things that actually make sense -___-
no subject
I mean, Kim Chiu??
no subject
Oh, you forget. Gerald ANDERSON. :)
Blame that on the crab mentality that has grabbed this nation, translating to its entertainment industry. :)
no subject
even so, I still love him though... and the Pinoy My Girl? I haven't watched one episode yet... and still I don't want to watch it... its just... I hate it! LOL!
no subject
it's quite a hit, i hear....oh well...different strokes for different folks. :)
no subject
For some reason I laughed a lot at this part :D
But that girl playing the lead.. she looks cute :)
Iljimae hit 20% wohoo~
I've only seen Lee Young Ah in Golden Bride. But then again she doesn't have that many dramas where she has played the lead.
no subject
Yes. Kim Chiu. Part-Filipino, part-Chinese. Would you believe that all three (Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson and Nina, the girl playing Park Su-weon's character, are from the Big Brother Teen Edition of our country? they turned it into a bloody talent search. And yes, Kim Chiu won because she was adorable, as concluded by the general public.)
20% is HIGH, right?
Lee Young-ah...i've searched her name in dramawiki and it turns out all the few dramas she was in...never seen any one of them. haha. I like her. Not too pretty, but I really like her.
no subject
20% is very very good. There usually is one drama each day that eats a lot of ratings while rest are stuck at around 10%. So breaking that 20% is excellent. Hopefully Iljimae still improves :)
Lee Young Ah, her character in Iljimae is good :)
no subject
I hated that show. The franchise as a whole. I get that aim to be Orwellian, but THAT is hardly real life.
Ah...I can't wait for subs to eps 5 and 6. I found the ones released quite shabby, but more than tolerable. :D
no subject
no subject
haha. Yeah. I'm Filipino. And...I don't think I made that fact a secret. :)
I hate anything ripped off, basically, and it's sad that Pinoys lack the originality when we can do so much more. I'm just glad the Twilight rumor wasn't true.
And Imbestigador is not baduy. I am vehemently denying that, coz I watch it too. lolz.
